On being materialistic.....

Why I care about what I look like now more than ever.
10

Hi. Here we are. Thanks for joining me. I have “struggled” to figure out a place for this sort of content…and by this sort of content I mean the musings of a 57 year old woman who cares about things…all kinds of things….in sometimes a desperate way. Anyway let’s keep this second post simple. I wanted to show you two things. How I chose to dress for a fancy formal affair and how I am most comfortable dressing on the daily. We had a fancy wedding to go to and in imagining myself there in a ball gown with my hair up and my face coated with makeup “wearing jewels”…it seemed all wrong. (Remember the scene in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the ball?)

Like I do not want to wear sequins or bodices or squeeze myself into strappy sandals. This does not feel modern. And it certainly doesn’t feel modern to buy “formal clothes”. So I went “a hunting” in my closet. This is an old Gabriela Hearst dress that I think I wore when my kids were on the bar mitzvah circuit. I wore it with pumps, with my hair up….. I’ve changed since then. I want comfort. Stilettos are gone but platforms are my friend. Like these insane Chanel boots which I promise you I will live in. I’m rambling. I don’t quite understand substacks yet so I’m just letting it rip. This is a post about how much I love to get dressed. That every day is dressing up of a different kind. Whether it be to go to a formal affair or just a regular degular day of work. The choices are different but took the same care with both. I want to talk alot about clothes here. I also want to talk about makeup. I also want to figure out how to change paragraphs and not have the fonts change but we will have to save that for another day. I promise to also talk about jewelry. And food. And fabric. And paint colors. And rock collecting (which is just shopping outdoors so of course I love it) What I guess I’m talking about is being a very unabashedly materialistic person and feeling very much like this is OK……OK?

PS I hope that link I shared of the ballroom scene in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang worked. Let me know if it didn’t. We’re going to talk alot about Chitty Chitty Bang Bang here.
